BLACK HISTORY UNCOVERED SCREENS at the Pan African Film Festival
Los Angeles audiences give AMS Pictures’ series superior ratings
Los Angeles, CA - AMS Pictures’ Black History Uncovered series was highly reviewed at the 2008 Pan African Film Festival held recently in Los Angeles. The series includes an inspiring and entertaining mix of untold and unexamined stories in African American history: Rising From the Rails: The Story of the Pullman Porter, In The Shadow Of Hollywood: Race Films & The Birth of Black Cinema, Flying For Freedom: Untold Stories of the Tuskegee Airmen, and A Colored Life: The Herb Jeffries Story.
The Pan African Film Festival, established in 1992, was founded to promote cultural and racial tolerance and understanding using art, film and creative expressions. It receives thousands of films, documentaries and additional submissions annually. With thousands of producers, directors, movers and shakers, and audience members in attendance, the inclusion of AMS Pictures’ Black History Uncovered to this festival gave the production company the opportunity to be in the Hollywood and international spotlight.
Several AMS’ers were on hand to attend the weekend’s events, including a Student Fest, Seniors Screening, and a tribute to Herb Jeffries himself. Co-producer Monika Watkins had the opportunity to meet with several individuals after the screening of Flying for Freedom and received rewarding feedback in person. “The PAFF does a wonderful job getting the community involved in the festival. The Student Fest and Senior groups were terrific audiences to see the documentaries AMS has produced. I enjoyed the experience and was honored to be a part of this unique gathering of filmmakers.” Kim Clemons, producer/director of A Colored Life was proud to be part of a production that relates to young and older audiences alike. “The greatest moment for me was sitting in on both the students and senior screening, and hearing their unsolicited reactions. It was the first time anyone other than my family or co-workers had seen A Colored Life. It was a thrill knowing we had hit the mark with young and old alike.” AMS Executive Producer and CEO, Andy Streitfeld, was also honored to have the opportunity to work with history makers like Herb Jeffries, as well as attend an event which paid tribute to him. “Herb is a vibrant 95 year-old man who should be celebrated. It’s about time, and I was honored to be there to attend with Monika and Kim.”
